Another example of the sub rosa genius of Marley Marl's music. How many old school hip-hop records with cheesy, overmodulated guitar riffs sound this damn good? Craig G shouts his rhymes just to be heard above the beautiful cacophony underneath. And the dub? There's more going on in that track than in twenty lesser records. Commercial? At the time, yes, all over Red Alert's radio show. But the dub is as experimental as anything by 20th avan-garde composers: Cage, Feldman, Reich, Ligetti, etc., etc.
