Edited one month agoThis Album blows me away. Brillant vocs by Cedric. Sounds like TMV and At The Drive-In and perfect Mix. Only thing I would have say is that Genius on his Guitar Omar may haved play a bit more. In my opinion one of the best TMV albums.

5/5 Hot damn this is a good album. A chill, dark, jazzy psychadelic album from start to finish. Sounds phenomenal. Who cares about the packaging, the record is top notch by itself. Reminds me of the packaging for "Mezzanine" by Massive Attack.

whats all this nonsense in the notes about "package included..."? my packaging didnt include any of that crap.

Very pleased with this pressing. No crackling or noise on quiet parts. So happy these guys are continuing to put out new music.

The love child of s the Mute, Noctourniquet and Self Titled. It grows on me more with every listen! Yes the presentation is barebones but it’s the music that really counts at the end of the day. The art print is killer. Sound quality is excellent too, as with all of my other Clouds Hill albums. Highly recommend!

I got half way through before I had to go to work. Definitely sounds great! I wish there was more guitar on it as I love the old MV days of spastic guitar playing. I put the textured cover in the front of the wrapper. I collect music from bands I like, even if they go through weird phases. I will finish the second album and probably sit in front of my Tekton speakers again for a better listen through. I am so over haters online. Don't care about the lyrics as I rarely read them anymore. Price is what it is. Sometimes you get awesome deals on vinyl which make up for the over-priced ones.

Edited one month agoSound quality of pressings is pristine, I'm digging the musical and art direction on this. The insert and overall minimalist presentation reflects the sounds therein. Kind of Reminds me of Zeppelin's ITTOD, with the paper shell concealing and mystifying the album within, for it to reveal itself to you once you unlock it from the plastic. The current state of The Mars Volta; Maturing and ever re(de)fining their sound and approach just as we, the aging listener, too grow and change with time. I'm enjoying this jazzy/electronic age they've come into.
Lot of complainers here:
Many albums don't come with lyrics, you could interpret it as a statement from the artists to take it as an emotional/sonic experience instead of something to be dissected and overanalyzed. Which has really been at the core of this band and indeed Omar and Cedric's work since conception. Packaging is fine, price is acceptable; it's a double album.
----
Everything is more expensive these days, that's how inflation works, but even still, $40 is pretty standard for 2LP and has been for over a decade. Only under certain circumstances will you see it lower than. Suffice to say there's a lot of steps and factors that go into making a record, not all processes are alike.
What's more, there's singles and 1-4 track EPs that have gone for $45+ retail. So no, $40 for a full 18 track 2 disc album is not bad. Not by a longshot.
----
If you need gimmick discs, which have worse sound quality, in order to feel you weren't cheated, then I don't know what to tell ya. Maybe you collect records for the wrong reasons. Maybe you can glue the textured insert onto the cover to feel better about your purchase.
