Flat? Maybe there are multiple versions of this from different plants? my copy sounds great - very dynamic. Keys and guitar jumping out over a bass groove, prince's voice cutting through it all.
my only complaint is that the discs have some manufacturing residue on them - needs a wet cleaning, although seems like every record does, these days. -
Having owned both the '93 and these current pressings of Hits 1&2 I have to say this is a great reissue and absolutely worth throwing some cash at. I would say recommended over dropping unnecessarily high amounts on an overrated (by people trying to justify maintaining value on an old one) original.
I know a lot of people bitch about pressings from Czech Republic online however I have yet to see any evidence of anything wrong with them. The reissues sound much fuller to me, distortion free (not so with the '93) and the cover/inners are better quality).
In of the contents of you're reading this you're likely already familiar and will know you can't buy one without the other and there isn't a duff track between them (including the "new" tracks).
Treat yourself whilst they remain in print. -

Pouha ! So many songs are cutted. Lame. "Adore "4:41 !! And here people just talk about sound quality...

Just picked this 2 LP black vinyl version up in-store for $15 and have to say was well worth it. Gave the records an excellent vacuum wet cleaning and gave them a listen. There is some very minor surface noise in spots, but nothing that takes away from enjoying it. Sound quality is very good for a greatest hits compilation, dynamics are good and has excellent punch to it. Overall sound quality is 4.5/5.0 for me.

Since this is just out, a quick review: middling. My copy was flat and pretty quiet. The first disc is a little off-center but the wobble isn’t extreme.
The problem is the sound. There’s no mastering info on this release but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn it’s pressed from a digital copy. Soundstage is flat, with little punch or separation.
Minor quibbles: the fact that these releases aren’t in gatefolds and come in heavy paper inners is annoying.
No need to review the music itself - this and Hits 2 collect some of the finest pop music made in the late 20th Century. As one-stop shopping for your Prince collection, it’s hard to beat these two double albums of funky goodness. Just don’t expect audiophile sound.
