Notes
Originally released in 7 October 1986.
CBS, who distributed Def Jam albums, had refused to handle Reign In Blood despite the fact that it was already paid for. Their issues were down to two things: the cover and the song "Angel Of Death" (they demanded that Slayer remove the song).
Columbia refused to release it because of "Angel of Death" and Geffen released it but without their logo present.
It is considered one of the most influential thrash metal albums of all time, and was certified gold (500,000+ sales) by the RIAA on November 20, 1992 (six years after its release).
It reached #94 on the Billboard 200 and produced four singles: "Raining Blood", "Angel Of Death", "Necrophobic" and "Criminally Insane".
“There was constant competition between all of those bands,” says Brian Slagel, countering Kerry’s assertion. “Who was the fastest band? They took that very seriously, and that’s one thing that led to the speed of Reign In Blood.”
“Kerry and Jeff said that they didn’t want to do a slow record - they wanted to do something fast. We were young. We were hungry. And we wanted to be faster than everybody else.”
Araya about "Angel Of Death": "That scream took two takes..."
The producer (Rick) told them that they didn’t need any reverb on the guitars or vocals. The result was a sound that was as dry as a bone and heavy as granite; it instantly set Slayer apart from the other kids on the thrash metal block. “It’s very close to being a live album, very well recorded in a studio. Slayer didn’t sound like anyone else, that’s why the album sounds different than other metal albums. They really were creating their own genre.”

This pressing absolutely slaps! Very aggressive sounding press. Get this and you don’t have to get another -

I agree this sounds really pretty good considering the masters are gone.
Pressing is quiet.
This has the the longer rain ending after Raining Blood. -
Judging by what other people said I was skeptical to buy this but my copy sounds absolutely fantastic on my setup. I might have just been used to the shitty cassette version for so long but the bass kick is really defined.

If anyone here has the inner sleeve and is willing to sell, DM me. Got a good pressing with a good cover, but no inner sleeve. Sounds great, by the way.

This features the original mastering, same as the 1991 CD Slayer = Slayer - Reign In Blood = レイン・イン・ブラッド and pre-remastered Euro/US CDs. Though it's a little weird because remastered reissues were released in 1994 in the rest of the world. I compared these CDs myself.
Another giveway that this is pre-remaster is:
- it features the original tracklist, with no bonus tracks. Bonus tracks were added only with the remastering
- it features the original CD rear cover. The remasters have the rear cover from the original vinyl (band photo). -
Edited 3 months agoБутлег российского производства, вся полиграфия глянцевая и является ре-сканами с оригинального французского издания. Звучит хуже оригинала, по динамике схожа с переизданием официального пресса 2013.
Russian bootleg, all inserts and sleeves are glossy - re-scans from original french press. Sounds much worse than original press, really similar to the official 2013 press. -
I’m annoyed, I have an edition with sleeve Def Jam Recordings, the "W" in relief on the cover and the masterdisc inscriptions on the vinyl, but I can’t know if it is the unofficial or not

Mine is a great pressing. Dead silent with no pops or clicks and the sound is very punchy. Glad I purchased it. -

I'm not really a Slayer fan, per se; however, this is THE BEST metal album I know about. It's extreme, impossibly fast, and technically proficient. "Reign" is bookended by the band's best songs. This CD version sounds good to me, but I also like the sound of the original LP, too.
Note - My CD player does not cut off the first second of "Angel of Death," though it does start "Raining Blood" during the coda of "Post Mortem." Oh well, I always listen to the whole thing at once, anyway.
