    Hi,

    http://discogs.mejorespelis.org/release/1990271

This release is a Box Set, which contains 5 previously released albums spread across 5 CDs.

    The format currently reads:

    5 × CD, Album
    Box Set, Compilation

Doesn't the first line at the moment suggest, that the 5 CDs form one album?

    Shouldn't the format actually read:

    1 × CD, Album
    1 × CD, Album
    1 × CD, Album
    1 × CD, Album
    1 × CD, Album
    Box Set, Compilation

At a first glance this looks kinda ridiculous, but if you think about it, this seems to be the only correct way of entering this release. But I'm still unsure.

    What do you guys/[edit]gals[/edit] think?

I would have said this was the old, accepted way of entering releases like this, except for the Album tag. That shouldn't have been there.

Per nik that is the only acceptable way nowadays. I don't like it but that is the current standard.

I do think this way it is better in of "clarity", because there is no need to start interpreting what the format line actually means, but it does look kinda weird.
however data quality is more important than looks :-)

    [edit]:
I now changed the format accordingly.
I also added Reissue to each CD, as the CDs factually are reissues according to the guidelines.

It's refreshing to see this perspective. Whilst it does look odd at first, it soon becomes normal.

Interesting. When did this happen? The last I read was that Nik felt both were fine but the latter was more complete and "more correct" than the shorter method which was also considered correct (but less so). I'm asking so I can update my bookmarks.

Actually, it was in a comment of a release I commented and voted on. I don't know if there was a forum thread or not.

Ah. Thanks anyway. It doesn't affect me as this is how I've approached them for a while now after initially giggling at the prospect of having to do it. I now prefer this method as well as just doing it because I was told to.

+1 (I've had hundreds of discussion about this)

If format and content wouldn't be jammed in the same field the problem would not occur.
5XCD, Album can be interpreted as
    - 5X(CD, Album): 5 albums
    - (5XCD), Album: 1 album, spread over 5 CD's
Another fine example: Steve Roach - The Dreamtime Box
This one has 4 CD's, but only 3 albums
