Does anyone know what's going on here - I've just replaced the stylus' on a pair of Ortofon Concorde Mk 2s, and when I cue records to mix, they skip quite a lot when pulling back the record, much more so compared to the old stylus'. The turntables are Technics 1200 mk 2s with 3.5 grams of weight in the tone arm and the anti skate set to 3.
Is this normal? Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Fairly sure this also happened last time I replaced the stylus'.
Thanks! -

check your tone arm height, chance is that the problem lies there.
Make sure the arm is exactly parallel to the platter of your TT.
Also check your anti skate;
take a single side vinyl and place it on your TT, with the empty side up.
Place your needle on it and adjust the anti skate so it will stay stable in the middle of the record. -

Thank you very much 🙏 Will check these out. Tbh, I've only ever set the anti skate to as close as possible to the tracking force, so defo need to pay more attention to this and do it properly. -

here's a short and clear video how to set up the anti skate:

I've never experienced new stylii requiring anti-skate changes but could be you just bumped your anti-skate wheels when you were taking off the old ones? Stefan-KWS got you covered here but Ortofon has this on their website fyi:
Problems with skipping
- that all of your adjustments are set optimally - this includes Tracking Weight, Tonearm Height, Anti-Skating, and Overhang (OM models only). that each one of these factors directly influences the performance of the cartridge, both in sound and in tracking.
- If your cartridge has just recently been purchased, it is necessary to allow a "break-in" period of up to 20 hours of normal playback, in order to get the best performance. We do not recommend allowing the stylus to play the lead-out groove for these hours as this will leave significant residue on the diamond.
Advice I got when young was whenever you muck about with your cart you should re-check those tone-arm settings. A digital stylus pressure gauge is a very good & cheap tool to have at the ready for this anyways! I got one on Amazon for ~$15. :) -

Thanks all, that's really helpful. So the tonearm height is fine, although one of the issues re anti-skate is it only goes up to 3 on a Technics 1200 mk2 - I used the method in that very helpful video Stefan-KWS, although as the anti-skate only goes up to 3, if the tracking force exceeds ~3, it's not possible to stop the tonearm gliding into the centre of the turntable. Anyways... I've added more tracking force (4.5 gram) which has mostly resolved skipping the issue. In the leaflet that came with the stylus, it recommend 4g so I probs should have read this first 🤦🏻♂️
That's really interesting devin306 - I was wondering if there was a 'break-in' period - explains a lot!
Thanks all 🙏
