Jean-Marie Massou – Sodorome Vol​.​1

Jean-Marie Massou has several strings to his bow: he sings the ballads that he writes, such as the well-known ‘Complainte de Marie-Ange’, dedicated to the little girl he crossed paths with during his childhood, which can last from 3 minutes to a quarter of an hour depending on his mood. He sings with the help of cassette tapes, tracks like ‘La Paloma’, ‘Du gris’ and ‘Les compa- gnons de la chanson’, and he also makes sophisticated compositions to go alongside his dreams, his sketches or indeed the messages that he wants you to hear.
The first volume in this Sodorome series is intended to be an introduction to all of this, a composition made from field recordings that we have produced with him with the aid of digitised cassette tapes. We take a tour with him from the well under his chestnut trees to the interior of his house, from his liking for Mary Poppins or Madonna to his own versions of lyrics from popular songs, or indeed from the death of Pope Pius XII to the ‘ugly version’ of the French national anthem. A discovery of Massou’s world, which will be followed by more specific forthcoming releases.
