'Round Up' sure breathes that certain 'classic' Techno spirit from around 1992 with every second of its running time. Makes me think of Kirk DeGiorgio and the releases on his groundbreaking but shortlived A. R. T. label or even some of Warp's 'Artificial Intelligence' releases. Yes, it's that good - although a little less experimental than the aforementioned records. Definitely not your average, harsh and dancefloor destroying 'Djax-Up' record.
The beats are straight without exception, the percussion patterns are clever and thoughtfully varied - and made with the usual Roland gear. Deep, sometimes even jazzy basslines float underneath beautiful synth pads and bleepy melodies. Stefan Robbers arranges those elements with great creativity and keeps things flowing.
Beautiful, futuristic melancholy.
