Notes

First pressing, issued in plain white cardboard sleeve with center hole.
Some copies came with an additional heavy paper printed fold over picture sleeve.

Commercial Zone is an album of studio recordings that were released in 1984 by guitarist Keith Levene. Levene obtained the master tapes without consent from John Lydon or the rest of PiL. Levene soon received a cease and desist order from PiL's record label. The album includes several songs that were later re-recorded.

A different mix of "Blue Water" also appeared as the b-side to the 1983 single "This Is Not A Love Song." The version of "Love Song" that appears on Commercial Zone appeared on the 12" version of the single listed as "remix".

This was the first release of this material supposedly by Keith Levine pressed here in NYC. During the making of their 4 th lp John and Keith fell out. As. Keith knew John intended to take this material and rework it Keith slid this out on the down low.
In my opinion although unfinished its far superior to the mediocre lp put out by John later and began his slide into half assed alt rock.
Its not super expensive and if you liked the original PIL you’ll definitely like it.
Pressed and plays like a standard release.

There is an additional CD-R version of Commercial Zone which (I think) came direct from Keith Levene around ten or more years ago. CD is labelled with black PiL logo. Comes in a jewel case with black folded cover insert simply stating 'COMMERCiAL ZONE' 'LiMiTED EDiTiON' and the PiL logo. The rear insert lists the tracks as above but includes details that Mad Max is Bad Life, Young Brits is Solitaire and The Slab is The Order of Death. Released date is given as 11/83 and Martin Atkins and Pete Jones are credited on drums and bass respectively. Additional text states: German import version with additional fold over paper sleeve. Titled 'Commercial Zone - The Keith Levene Guide to being Rotten'! Label appears as Naughty Dog.

Fuck me – 'The Slab' is funereal and brilliantly focused in this form. Everything PiL promised, in fact..... this blows the whole concept of 'gothic rock' out of the water as the rebarbative rock regurgitation it always was.....
