I heard these guys in South London in 1981. Got temporarily deafened and knocked-down on a zebra crossing the following day. It was worth it! Purchased the LP the following year. Re-listening 40 years later, the music sounds fresh, clean and uncompromising. Outstanding performances by all of the band. But, IMHO, the biggest contributors to the distinctive sound are Pete Saunders on Hammond and Jimmy Patterson on Trombone. But of course, Dexys wouldn’t be Dexys without Rowland’s egotistic lyrics and haranguing delivery. Great instrument separation and stereo imagery on this pressing. Love it!

One of my favourite albums of all time. Anyone knows which LP version has the best sound quality? I have an early repress that sounded good but would like to have the best sounding

My copy's half-destroyed but still sounds dynamite. I do get paranoid 2 or 3 of the songs are gunning for washouts like me, why does half the music I like make me guilty about getting stoned, like couldn't I just listen to the Grateful Dead? Errrr no.

Excellent press and classic Dexys. A must have to enjoy the journey of how Dexys started and and to feel their crossover into Ska and other bands at that time such as The Beat, Madness, Selector, Specials etc.

Searching for the Young Soul Rebels is, as the title suggests, a soul record with Kevin baring his soul and pushing his voice to, and beyond the limit of its expressiveness. Staccato, propulsive brass (trombone and saxophones) interject forcefully into the music, which is full of adrenaline rush moments, slowing down and speeding up at will, startling images, control and abandon...
