PSA, in case anyone’s wondering: no, the record is not skipping at the end of Fancy Colours, they deliberately made the ending loop 13 times, before eventually fading. So just in case anyone new to this album thought their copy was defective or scratched, it’s not.

Edited 2 years agoA fantastic glimpse of Pop/Rock//Fusion. From my perspective this album is best heard in it's entirety to get the true feel of the Pop/Rock/Fusion blend. I must state that the first 5 Chicago albums are my favorite. After Cetera found a strong foothold in the band, I completely lost interest because the band dropped it's original recipe for a straight-up Pop sound. (Not the bands fault, it was the guys behind the scenes tugging those strings). I also want to state as much as I dislike the Cetera era Chicago sound, Pete goes OFF on the bass on these early recordings. He is truly an understated thump master. The rhythm section thumps, pops, and grooves with the help of Cetera's playing. This is a terrific album straight across the board.

Put on side one. Turn it way up. Sit in your favorite sweet spot for experiencing music. Drop into the superlative playing, singing, engineering, and production that makes this record so beautiful. Listen to all 4 sides in one sitting. This genre at its best.

I have Chicago 2 which I bought in sometime between 1979-1982. It is a Spanish pressing and the labels are in Spanish and English but I cannot find any information on it in the Discogs search engine. Any info on it much appreciated

Finally got this on vinyl and love it! I love the early Chicago stuff, you know, before Peter Cetera took over. I was confused for years if this was album I or II, but after buying the Transit Authority album, I am very clear. What makes this and just about all of their early stuff so good, is that it has that great fusion sound of Rock, Soul, Funk, Classical ,and Jazz. Their funk overtones are out of this world to me(I guess I have Peter Cetera to thank for that). My favorites on II is The Make Me Smile Suite, 25 or 6 to 4, and then there's the It Better End Soon Movements. Now that one right there is the bomb!!!! Robert Lamm directed himself a pure masterpiece. Chicago (at least right here) proved that a complete album was the way to go. Ok, have your hits, that's fine, but make sure you have something around them that complements them. This album was the perfect example of that.
