I cannot recommend this pressing at all.
I had a copy of the pressing listed below that I scratched on side A so badly it skipped. I replaced it with this pressing and I have to say Redux is very much inferior to the one listed below. It’s muddy, flat and lifeless in comparison. Surprisingly considering they should be basically identical.

Edited 2 years agoI've had this album since 2009, and when I bought it, I had already listen to O'Brien's Redux version on digital and didn't like it at the time, so I never even touched Disc 2 other than putting it into an archive sleeve. I wasn't impressed with Disc 1 as it seemed lifeless. I'm glad I didn't decide to get rid of this because I decided to give Redux a second shot 14 years later. I've got to say it sounds great. The bass comes out in this album like I've never heard it, but it doesn't overpower the rest of the guys. Vedder's vocals are front and center, the drums and guitars still sound great. You can hear all the small nuances played by on the bass and guitars. There's plenty of life to this pressing of Redux. I'm glad I got a bug up my ass to give the 2nd Disc a go.

Edited 2 years agoProbably the quietest pressing of any album I have ever listened to. Honestly cranked the preamp up to 10 and there is still no indication of clipping. Crazy. That said, when turning the preamp up this much, it actually sounds a lot better. Still too much surface noise during quiet parts, IMO. It did seem to improve a bit after a THIRD WASHING in the vinyl Styl spin cleaner and a good wipe down on the platter. The run-in/intro to A1 is pure garbage noise. At least I only paid ~$18.00 for this new.
Could/Should be a lot better than this :(
EDIT: The gatefold sleeve is really nice. -
Edited 2 years agoMine is not as bad as others have described, but I have to play my system really loud to be able to enjoy it. No surface noise except very little at the beginning on the last track of side 2 (Release).
Just FYI, I paid $18 on Amazon for this (Sept 2022, down from $43.50). I have the CD version of this, and I hear no differences between one and the other. I bought it because a) it is one of my favorite PJ albums and I wanted to have it also on vinyl, and b) it was so cheap I could not ! -
Pretty much junk. Pressing defect surface noise all over disc one side one.
Everything is over length and sounds like squashed garbage. Buy the CD or wait for this to get mastered correctly. -
This album sounds so flat. It's listenable, but there is absolutely no life to it. I'm not super picky, but when you have a hype sticker on the cover with gold foiled "AUDIOPHILE PRESSING", it sets a certain level of expectation that this pressing doesn't live up to.

Both vinyl are very clean. When packaged they were in the sleeves very tight. So...replace the inner sleeves and never put them back in the cardboard.LOL. So whats the deal? The new remix is pretty good. To be honest the original version of this album gave me a headache. Probably due to maxed out remastering. This version does a good job IMO of calming down the overly produced initial release. Pearl Jam fans should like hearing both mixes.

Awful... A complete delusion. I had high expectations from this press, but it sounds compressed and too calm for a grunge album. The original mix sounds better, more louder than the Redux. Totally disappointed
