When she burst onto the scene out of nowhere with her first big hit, Kim Wilde - Kids In America, in 1981, most guys around the world immediately had a crush on her. Believe me… I was there too 😉.
This was not surprising really, because with her demure, introverted, almost timid charm, and her uber-cool looks Kim Wilde was a truly unique, fresh artist in many ways. For a brief two-year period, she even became something of a style icon.
Although her self-titled debut album Kim Wilde - Select is still an excellent, striking album that is worth rediscovering and listening to again – especially if you were too young to experience it almost 45 years ago. If you want to hear those early electronic 1980s "Wasp" synthesizer acoustics, look no further, because that's what this era truly sounded like 🤩👍.
