Edited 4 months agoThe Japanese CD releases with UCCI prefix, dated 2011 2015 2018 are the same mastering. Not sure about the 2021 release, but I can't imagine it would be any different LOL. I don't know if this will ever be put back out on vinyl, so these Japanese CDs are about as good as you're going to get to hear the music in an easily acquired form. I would think the original tapes are long gone... the Japanese discs are a different remastering than the GRP releases.

One of the essential Trane lps. Oh ok, they're all essential... ;-D And the mastering/pressing is just incredible

Pure magic. I love everything about it. The tide is changing for Coltrane and this is a preview of what is to come. Still easy to digest and you get the magic of his classic backing band at their peak powers. I just love Coltrane's trajectory and that he just up and died makes the whole thing that much more mysterious and alluring. Anyone who likes Coltrane has to have this one. Seems like it's one of the more overlooked albums as is Stellar Regions but I think it's among the best.

This is an amazing record. And I might even argue that the horrendous artwork is keeping the prices a hair lower than median Coltrane of this musical standard.
-
worst cover design ever. and no one thought about reissue utilizing some archive images so far. palmface.

I actually enjoy this album more than A Love Supreme without a doubt. I pray this gets another look / remaster / repress but in all honesty this pressing is great for what it is (a posthumous release.)
-
so much more than music, listened to it yesterday after I couldn't really listen to music for a long time, this is beyond this earth
-
Just a stunning album. It’s right up there with Ascension and Love Supreme. This deserved better than a posthumous release with such awful cover art. An essential album in the Coltrane discography. The ‘long’ version of “Serenity” is a masterpiece.

Such an underrated Coltrane album. It was recorded just after A Love Supreme but never released until 1977. Trust me, if this album had a better artwork, it would be way more appreciated. It's like A Love Supreme Part 2, and the introduction to Meditations.
