Deepville is so well named. Timeless and bottomless deepness. Let Yourself Go, both versions is another really great track, but Deepville still sounds as good as the first time I heard it 31 years ago. One of those tracks that could just go on forever. Mesmerising.

On later compilation releases with this was edited so the sample at the end of the song was taken off. The sample was an illegal usage of The Carpenters- "On top of the world." (The sample is the vocal line: "Such a feeling coming over me." A reference to the mdma feeling of ecstasy common to clubbers on E.) Which was objected to by their (The Carpenters) record company and Richard Carpenter himself unless a large fee was paid. 808 state decided that was too big a price so agreed all further use of the song would not include that sample.

"Let Yourself Go (303 Mix)" is one of the all-time ultimate acid tracks. It would not have been out of place on Gerald's "Trip City" soundtrack album.

"Deepville" is haunted, one of the truly great encounters between early deep-house and acid-house, so much mystery and emotion in there. A real ghost in the machine.
