I purchased one of these used from my local record store. Turns out one side of it was pressed off center, so I ended up trading it back in.

Love the album but maybe I got an unfortunate copy - last song on side A has some pretty significant distortion - there’s a lot of music packed into side A but that last track really takes a hit because of the inner groove distortion.

Edited 13 years agoThe collection is a nice bundle from Jagjaguwar because it comes with so many goodies. The Album as a whole falls short of what I think Sharon Van Etten has the capacity of accomplishing. Although the album is the most polished effort her voice is thinner and weaker and although the tone is adamant about its sense of redemption and experience there is less of Sharon's actual voice projected on this. Perhaps its the endless touring and the cigarettes that are taking a toll on her voice but its safe to say that the self produced and the work on language of stone and Badabing records far outweigh in what Sharon does with the music she makes. If she's destined for a future in commercial radio thats fine but she's hardly a pop artist. This isn't a musician that is like Say Lykke Li who has an endearing youthful awakening in their sound but rather the brand is meloncholy and to pretend that there still isn't some harkening back is only going to be percieved as fleeting. If you like substance skip this album. I would rate this 6.5 out of 10.0
