There are a slew of faults and weaknesses in this mix that are; fortunately, outweighed by the difference of listening perspectives compared to the original release. For instance, the guitar is criminally buried in the Cale mix of 1969, but at the same time Iggy's vocal sneer is more pronounced. While I think the original release is superior, this alternate mix is worthy. It's definitely a conversation piece, and it's always fun to break out both LPs and do the 'Pepsi Challenge'. I always hear something new from both mixes. Great companion piece too.

Agree this Cale mix is rawer than original. Either is fine with me, it’s the Stooges…!

Great pressing. Flat, clean, and quiet aside from the tiniest occasional crackle between songs.
I’ve never owned any other versions of this album and am ittedly more of a casual Stooges fan, but these John Cale mixes sound good to me. “I Wanna Be Your Dog” sounds particularly good.
Fun, raw album to crank up and get loose with.

great pressing. clean and flat...the album is cool, i prefer the OG mix for rawness but this is great, some stuff that was very muddy on the orginal lP pops really well on this version. overall a cool pickup for the price

Sadly, my pressing (Red Transparent) is rather noisy (Ultrasonic cleaning made no difference). Maybe others are better. Love the music! Go IGGY!!

Great mixes, the original is better, but this is close

I found these mixes lacking compared to the ones that were released on the album. However, "I Wanna Be Your Dog" sounds incredible!

I don't pretend to have any audiophile or production insights, but the Cale mix, with Iggy's vocal's forward in the mix and Asheton's guitar oddly noisy and brittle / sharp but pushed back (as well as the drums) make the overall effect not 'calmer' but perhaps more akin to the first VU album than the purer 'rock' sound we might associate with it. It's almost art!

it took a second listen to 'get it' but this is actually really good! I had the original LP from about 1972 and had always loved it but always found it slightly comical and naive in its production . The Cale version strips this out completely, the band sound tighter, nastier and much closer to their later recordings.
