Yes it's true, it sounds great!
Yes it's true, it has ticks and pops I couldn't get out...

Fabulous record. Inspired playing and the soundquality is very good indeed. My copy has no artefacts, just plays clean and sounds very, very nice. In between tracks a bit of light noise can be heard which is in the recording, not the vinyl. Dynamics are great too, all instruments nicely separated en full-bodied. Listened to through Hana SL mono on Technics SL1200G, Accuphase C280 into Meier Audio headphone amp into Dan Clark Aeon II closed back headphones. Into my ears and into my brain :-)

Little bit disappointed about this pressing actually :( I had heard such rave reviews about this reissue and mono being the best way to listen to this album...
The horns sound great and up front, the reverb on them reminds me of the Columbia 30th St studios. But, there can be quite a bit of tape hiss at times and the drums sound so distant and muted (almost like a heavily compressed MP3??) The stereo mix on the other hand, sounds clear and open.
No complaints about the packaging or pressing quality though, they're both stellar. I just think this album sounds much better in stereo. -
Prefacing this as an owner of both the fantastic KG cut Stereo and Riverside OG...
Waited in line for over an hour at Academy Records in NYC to purchase this on RSD 2023 and got the last of 3 copies they had.
NOISY!!, absolutely horrendous hiss, one side worse than the other, emailed Craft Recordings who wanted absolutely nothing to do with it.
Maybe I just got unlucky, but be careful dropping $50+ for this on secondary!!

Vinyl is flat and most of album is quiet and few ticks and pops on a1. Mastering is unreal, this one sounds great. A definite buy!
-
Vinyl is a bit noisy. Rotational ticking noises on A1, one big pop on Side 2. Recorded sound is absolutely beautiful, music breathtaking. Gorgeous record, quality control could be a lot better.

Agree with others, this is a fantastic play! Dead flat vinyl and well balanced with no surprise pops! This was beautifully remastered and plays clean. Baker plays so smooth on this album, which is loaded with greats, including Bill Evans before he truly made a huge splash in the jazz scene. I was lucky enough to find one at my local record shop after Record Store Day, no waiting in a long line and didn’t over pay for this album! It’s worth grabbing, you won’t be disappointed!

The quality of this pressing is outstanding. A perfect 10/10. One of the crown jewels of RSD23.

Edited 2 years agoThis is the ideal one. least of all, my copy.
It is indeed superior to the stereo version.

Breathtakingly beautiful.
Both the stereo and mono are spectacular in their own way.
Like Coltrane’s masterpiece now published on Tone Poet, both mono & stereo versions are vital to a collection.
