Just a warning - these box sets with the misprinted "Alternative Version" album but containing the original remastered album instead are still being sold. I purchased this from Sound of Vinyl (UMC's own online storefront) in Dec. 2024 and it had the wrong one. I think it's pretty deceptive to still have these in their stock 3 years after the fact and no longer honoring the replacement. The alternative version is unique to this set so it's a big selling feature.

Edited 3 years agoAs a collector and long-time irer of Cat Stevens, I am really disappointed in this box set. First, the price-- about $300-- is not even remotely justified; nearly all of the audio content in the set are on optical discs. Second, they do not even include a remastered vinyl copy of the album. Third-- BY ACCIDENT-- they include a vinyl LP of alternate versions that is a mislabeled copy of the reissue. Fourth, although this is d as a numbered edition, their is no number, just a blank on the box insert. Fifth, the back of box insert that lists the contents of the set does not fit inside the box nor will it adhere to the outer box-- just stupid. Sixth, the album jackets are inexpensive knockoffs while the original release was housed in a "tip-on" Stoughton jacket. Finally, seventh, the hardback book, although it has a nice cover, is nowhere near as nice as the work that went into the books of the two previous box sets (MBJ & TFTT), The layouts and page designs are fairly rote and dull if you compare them. I seriously doubt the team that put this release together is the same one that did the two previous boxes, and lets face it, they screwed it up and then over-priced it for reasons that are hard to understand, other than by just seeing it as a cash grab. I would wait and look for these to drop in price over the coming months and try to get it at half off someplace. I have not even got into the sound quality, other than to say the vinyl is not of very high quality and has more surface noise than anyone deserves to have to tolerate at prices like these. This should have been a great release, but given all of the flaws, it feels like an over-priced fail.

Universal Music released a statement that the Alternate Version LP of Teaser is actually the 2021 remaster of the album proper. Details to come, but they have fast-tracked pressings of the Alternate Takes LP and are going to get those out to all owners. Looks like owners don't have to return the original LP either (which is only fair). This is good news as you essentially get a free LP. It's a beautiful boxset but definitely overpriced but if you're on the fence, might be good to pick it up now as I scored mine on udiscover music (UMe's store) during their 40% off sale. That price is more realistic.

Hopefully someone with more skills and knowledge than me will add a listing for the 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition (4 CDs + Blu-Ray), which doesn't seem to be listed yet. It does not include the vinyl that the listed set has and has a blue OBI, instead of the orange OBI that is in the one with the vinyl. It has a Bar Code of 602435949628 and is made in .
