B2 - Cheetah - sounds, to all intents and purposes, as If I could be listening to Walter/Wendy Carlos and his synthesized noodlings!

Edited 9 years agoHave to agree with Jarren that this isn't "the best of" by any measure. It might be "a sample of" because the boring stuff like Chetah and Vivaldi are part of the band. The cover sucks as well (go ahead tell me its really clever as its curved air that keeps a plane in the air but it still sucks) Have to ire the incredible forerunner of tagging squares in the picture ;-)

Edited 14 years agoUsually, "Best Of" compilations are ideal introductions to bands.
Usually.
In this case, well if it were not for the fact that I knew a little bit about Curved Air before picking this up I would easily have stored the band's name in my "not my cup of tea" brain receptor.
Truly, a lot of the material here is the aural equivalent of paying to watch people masturbate. No, that's NOT a good thing. Self-indulgent musical toss by people who want to show you how amazing they are at making noises. PROGRESSIVE ROCK.
*shudders
There are some amazing songs here, actually. The big hit "Back Street Love" is a proper early 70's rocker with a fantastic chorus and some funky rhythms. "Melinda (More Or Less)" is a haunting folk song of sublime beauty, bettered only by my favourite Curved Air song "Elfin Boy" which isn't included here. Perhaps they figured one quiet folk song was enough, the buyers want 11 fucking minutes of violin noodling don't they?
Look, I really detest this kind of stuff. I love Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd but am not too fussed on the 23 minute long excursions into guitar & saxophone wank that they became after he left.
Likewise, I LOVE the folksy Curved Air songs (and the rockier ones as long as they don't last too long). But the other part of Curved Air, the material that runs through most of this "Best Of", well that is the music that makes me angry.
As you have discovered.
