Edited 9 months agoOne of Willie's best albums - this pressing brings a quiet, resonant rendition of Willie's voice and his accompaniment. I listened very carefully 3-4 times to the final track on Side 2, "A Song For You" - I heard only Willie's emotive vocalizations and his playing on Trigger his legendary Martin guitar. I head none of the "problems' described here in other posts. This is not to disparage others' personal experiences, and I am not Hi-Fi Tech, but do understand that turntable settings, like anti-skating, can impact playback, especially as the stylus nears the spindle. Lastly, I find it more informative when posters share their kit info - so here goes from vinyl surface to speakers: Dynavector 10x5 cartridge, Rega P6, EAR Pre, Parasound HINT 6, ATC SCM11s. This pressing is first rate. Add it to your collection with confidence. -
Edited one year agoMuch as I would love to give this Willie Nelson masterpiece 5 stars, I simply cannot do it. This is a beautiful sounding record, and a perfect example of the power of Willie, right up until the last 10 seconds of "A Song For You". The very last, and the quietist, and possibly the most beautiful song on album, is left to fall flat with production surface noise that has been referred to by several other reviewers. It was very disappointing. I have no idea what would have caused this to happen, and frankly I don't care. It should have been heard by VMP, and fixed. I take my music very seriously, and I have a deep respect for artists such as Willie Nelson and others, who need their artistry provided to their listening fans in the very best way. This is how it goes with me. I listen to an album that sounds so good, from beginning to end, and when it's over I'm just left sitting there thinking, "Wow!!" that was so fine. But this record, although it nearly made it, right away just gets lifted off the turntable and put back in the folder, likely to reappear at some future date I guess. I hope you understand what I mean, though it's probably just me.
Would I buy it again, knowing what I know? Maybe, but just not from VMP. Although I must say that I do have some great VMP records. -
Echoing others’ reviews, mine sounds flawless. It’s very slightly dished but not to the point that I’d complain, especially given how good it sounds.

An album I never thought I’d ever need. What an incredible album and pressing. Sounds like the band is in the room. Don’t sleep on this one.

Absolutely phenomenal pressing! The vinyl is dead flat and silent—mastering is dynamic and incredible. Highly recommended! -

I’m so glad I got this one when it became available from VMP. It arrived in the mail today and it’s an Excellent pressing. Sounds amazing. I’ve wanted to pick up a copy of this album for quite some time, now it’s mine. So pour some Jack and May that whiskey River don’t run dry. -
