"as time went by I want you to cry cause in the end (you left with my best friend)"
This phrase in the title track has been samples from "The Funk Masters - It's Over" (1983). -
Why is this record above the rest of the generally high level retrofuturist electronic disco/boogie production of nowadays?
Well perhaps because of a lack of self-consciousness, not trying to be "clever" or "sophisticated" or "just the right level of undergroundness" ; but rather focusing on genuine fun, loose and relaxed vibe, the right beats and frequencies just to feel good and dance, the right amount of joy, generosity, melodic sense and let-go aesthetic.
The thing is, you can be sure that Tensnake actually knows one thing or two about "underground disco" and has a lot of friends in that scene, but he can be really praised for letting that aside and focusing on the dancefloor rather than trying to impress his disco-trainspotting-headz-buddies. And eventually succeeds in both levels!
A marvellous record.
