When that "Eminence Front" sample drops, it's just the best goddamn thing.

I have three copies of this pressing and all skip a few times on the "Radio Version" of "Pop Goes The Weasil". as their is no apparent scratch or such on all these copies, it must be a pressing flaw. anyone else with this experience? rest of the record plays fine.

The Stimulated Dummies sure love their "Sesame Street" samples—their remix here is yet another example of that whimsical edge they had in 1990-'91. To my mind, they were always a sort of crisper, (slightly) less adventurous variation on the Prince Paul production style. Those first KMD and Brand Nubian albums really benefited from the touch of SD50s. There was something that really worked about mixing the sort of civic-minded educational vibe of Big Bird's voice with the spry, thoughtful social commentary of golden era hip hop.

"Pop Goes The Weasel" is the best-selling single from the hip hop duo 3rd Bass; it appeared on their third album, Derelicts of Dialect. Funk samples from the J.B.'s and Stevie Wonder were used in the song. Released a year after the ill-fated Cactus Revisited E.P., "Pop Goes the Weasel" instantly became a hit and the single soon went gold. The song helped the album reach gold status a month later. The song's message was similar to "Gas Face", voicing criticsm towards the many mainstream commercial rap artists that had been gaining attention in the early 1990s (i.e. Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer). Production came from John Gamble, Geeby Dajani, and Dante Ross (noted for their groundbreaking work on Brand Nubian and Grand Puba's debut albums).
