I just got this 2x album yesterday. Woke up this morning and decided to play the entire album. Towards the end of side B I realized just how quiet the vinyl is. No pops, clicks, hiss etc. nothing…Put on the 2nd record and the results were the same. A beautiful album. Toward the end of the record I started reading the Discogs reviews. I am one lucky son of a b!

My copy of this pressing is excellent, picked up a sealed copy on sale in Tower Records yesterday. No issues at all, really solid throughout. Lost my original copy years ago, so happy to have a nice copy of this expanded version to replace it.

There are actually two versions of this code -77477-2, a re press, printed 2023 likely. the recent repress is better for audio, clean copy throughout, inky black. My previous copy has surface noise, side a track 1 and the odd pop and crackle through the remaining sides, b, c, d but not as serious. Also looks like 2023 artwork record sleeves are inferior colour photocopies. To sum , better vinyl, poorer artwork, on later editions.

Truly one of the very worst records in my entire collection with regard to surface noise, pressing blemishes and whatnot. A silly choice to buy a quiet ambient record on vinyl considering today's vinyl quality control - lessons learned. Sides 3 and 4 (the prime reason to re-buy a record I've enjoyed for decades) are effectively unlisten-able.
Horrible clicks and crackle, a kind of "digital-sounding" gritty distortion which is actually these tiny micro-scratches which I have also encountered on Blue Note Tone Poet's and others - clearly damage from the pressing plant - way too small to be anything a customer could inflict. So disappointing.
I should say never again, but I'm a sucker... -
Edited one year agoMy copy is something of a mixed bag: Side A has audible crackles and noise, while Side B sounds better, albeit with some recurring imperfections. Sides C & D sound pristine. So, basically 3 out of 4. Worth it, overall.

Edited one year agoDear all, the etching reads miles abbey road room 30, but there is no sign anywhere that it was cut on half-speed. I know Miles seems to cut records at half-speed in this particular room, but checking abbey road studios homepage there is also other equipment in that room so might be that this one is not cut at half speed like the others wearing the typical half-speed OBI and 1/2 speed etching. Please clarify if someone knows. Cannot find any e-mail to abbey, otherwise i would like to hear straight from the horses mouth. Brilliant album and release whatever the speed. Peace

I guess I got lucky. Both discs are flat and quiet. This remaster is gorgeous, and proof that half-speed isn't always bad ;) .
