This is a masterpiece pressing. But, I do not love the huge box. Fancy but why? And it is kind of a downer to have a song cut in the middle to change sides. But it is what it is, and it sounds great, wow.

Edited 3 months agoI feel the Kevin Gray cut is closer to what is on the tapes, but this is the absolute best the album can be mastered to sound. Sounds as if it was recorded today with the best engineers and equipment. If you want a "warmer" (I hate this term) sound, the Kevin Gray is the way to go. If you want the highest fidelity experience, this is the obvious choice.

I know i cant really judge an pressing of a record i dont own but i got a very high quality losless rip of this album and compared to the SACD my mofi this is just phenomenal. There is such a sharpness to the sound. The highs are so high while the bass is still so bassy. Ive used that rip to test any new headphones i get to hear how they sound. Phenomenal

Wow i just love the sound on this! So much space, detail and dynamic. Just a joy to listen. Soundstage and depth is beautiful. On point for me.

Having heard a number of pressings of this masterpiece, I can say this version is NOT the best. It sounds disconnected and the warmth of the original is lost.

Side 3 and 4 is awesome. Who says KG’s is best? Absolutely loving it Side 1 and 2 sounds less 3D and a bit heavy on bass. Side 3/4 is just incredible.

I have (3) versions of this masterpiece, the KG cut, and the killer DET Japanese reissue being the other two. They are all fantastic, but if you are looking for the best “audiophile” listening experience, there is no question it is this pressing. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding themsleves.

Edited one month agoThe sound of this “OneStep” is that of a high resolution capture of this iconic album’s master tapes with EQ applied to the highs and lows. Whether that be to the listener’s taste is subjective.
Just be aware that it can be bass heavy for much of the album and the initial sibilance for the opening title track can be overbearing (from a tonal quality perspective) The Gain2 ultra DSD process and mastering also gives it a very wide soundstage, which at times can seem as though it’s at odds with the feel of this album and the decision to spread one of the tracks over 2 sides is a point of contention for many.
Yet the holographic like presentation, clarity and openness of this edition is truly staggering and serves as the best aspect of this controversial yet captivating MoFi release. In that respect, it has to be heard to be believed!
The biggest negatives however, is the Mofigate scandal, as at the time, we all were led to believe it was an all analogue process until the truth got exposed, and the frequent QC issues that plagued this and other OneStep titles. Shame on you MFSL!
