Edited 3 years agoA superlative concept LP about the cycle of life : work, play, death and (re)birth. Special mention for "Now I sleep" - a profoundly moving soliloquy to suicide. Dee Dee Bridgewater's restrained delivery is emotionally intelligent...and my god when Sullivan comes in at the end, goose bumps every time. That plus Good-Bye Sweet John on the same LP is almost too much. This is music of rare class.
One of the very best Strata East LPs, which makes it one of the best LPs of an already brilliant era. -
Edited 7 years ago"Now I'll Sleep" is one of the most amazing soul searching ballads ever recorded , so beautiful and honest Dee Dee Bridgewater smashes it. I WANT THIS TO BE MY FUNERAL SONG. That's how powerful, the effect this track has on me. Often when i play it tears come to my eyes.
