Edited 2 years agoSo I am 72 years old. I recorded and mixed these demos in my parent's basement in Queens, NYC in the summer of 1975 for a guy named Alan Betrok who published a paper called the NY Rocker if memory serves. He was not all that involved in the recording process. Chris and I spent most of the time with this stuff. I him really liking my mom's upright piano with a "rinky-tink" attachment that made it sound honky-tonkish. I making lots of copies for Alan and the band to take to labels. Somebody obviously leaked one of the copies for these bootlegs to have happened.
For the audio geeks out there, I used a Neumann U67 on Debbie's vocal that I still own and use to this day. I bought it at an auction in '72 for $200. The recordings were done on a Tascam Series 70 8 track and Model 10 console with liberal use of a pair of Gately limiters which I wish I still had. -
The sound on this single is fantastic. Leaked right after they started becoming a big deal it was the first appearance of these early demos. Mine has no sleeve and I’ve never seen one that does actually.
