Could this be the finest American rock music album of all time? Sublime west coast Californian folk/pop/rock - pinnacle of the art form and of what the 60’s represented. Bathed in aural glory, complete with beautiful production, meticulous song-craft & glorious harmonies, shimmering guitars & faux hippy sentiment (‘Almost Cut My Hair’ – the ultimate freak flag flying anthem). This is one extraordinary spine-tingling Americana masterpiece. And that cover - with the biblical-type font, sepia-tinted, mock granular textured, faux-leather cover complete with the old-timey rocking-chair-dogs-shotguns group portrait (photographer Thomas O'Neal used a vintage wooden box camera similar to the one used by Civil War photographer Matthew Brady). The complete package.
Fun fact: The tree is still at cnr of Old Ranch Road and Indian Valley Fire Rd, Novato, CA, on the SW corner.
This album is endlessly playable.
