It's been a quite a while since I listened to PIPES OF PEACE. Time's been kind to it. "Average Person" is one of the more underrated songs in the Macca catalogue. Kinda like an Uncle Albert/iral Halsey for the 80's. I still have a hard time stomaching the last song of each side, but even "So Bad" isn't so bad now that I've learned his falsetto vocal was an homage to Smokey Robinson. No complaints with how this pressing sounds, there's plenty of low end, clean crisp highs, and a clear, detailed, cinematic soundstage. My copy plays quite clean and quiet, with no surface noise of note.

Edited one month agoMaxicut magic right here. Mastered by Australian mastering engineer Allan Parsons(not of Project fame) who should be well known but isn’t. Hard to imagine sounding better. Very natural and dynamic pressing on quiet vinyl.

Brilliant album, re-mastering sounds bloody awful. If you want a decent copy of this on vinyl, pick up a US pressing - all done right!

Edited 10 months agoCD sounds fine. As albums go, its not Division One McCartney but even so there are some great tunes here. I really like the title track (very well put together), the Jackson collaborations- The Man surely should have been a single ? I can easily picture your classic 80s style remixes 12” release of it. Arthur Baker remix and a proper extended mix. It drifts off a little in the second half, resulting in a few songs that act as aural background wallpaper.
However, the album ends with one of McCartney’s best ballads ever - Through Our Love. I don’t think it was single worthy but it’s a fantastic end-of-album track.
Made from remains of the Tug Of War sessions, this album may be best taken in as part of a double. I don’t think its too much of a stretch.
I like the packaging with these reissues. The big boxes are particularly beautiful. With this album, I’m happy with the two disc set. You have to treat the sleeve with a bit of TLC. The booklet is attached to the tri-fold sleeve, and it wouldn’t take much to dislodge it. Saying that, Ive got 10 of these McCartney sets and none of them have any packaging issues so they must be fairly sturdy. Just treat them nice is my only advice.
Note to self : Check out the boxset of this and see if it’s worth getting. I’ve got the Tug Of War box (A beauty) so it would make sense.
So, all in all its not bad but you’d be better off buying Red Rose Speedway. CD SQ sounds fine to my ears. Clear, spacious and certainly not headache inducing.
Where’s the London Egg reissues ? -
Mine sounds perfect. No clicks at all. Almost no surface noise either. Clean and clear cut remaster.

Edited one year agoFound a copy of this in nearly mint condition for $10, sounds great! I this being one of the first records my dad bought on cd in the early 80s. Because of that I had never heard this on vinyl but I have to say the dynamic range on this sounds great. Deep bass, excellent highs. I know this isn't everyone's favorite McCartney album but it's a personal favorite of mine. George Martin, Geoff Emerick, Ringo, what more can you want?

This is a great sounding German Odeon DMM (Direct Metal Mastering) pressing printed by EMI Electrola in Holland ??? I have never seen something like this, but the sound is really good, fresh, warm and crisp.

As for the DVD with the Say, Say Say video (w. Michael Jackson) it might be a failure as the version into the box set is different into the colouring, as seen it on many different DVD-machines, and alltime it getting more darkly into the colors as the other version who was shown on MTV /VH1 or even on the official McCartney youtube site...
Anybody know why the colours are different? -

Amazing sound quality on this release. Pressing is fantastic too.
I made a needledrop of one of the tracks from this vinyl record - You can find it on the right side in the videos - Under the name: Paul McCartney - Say Say Say (Featuring Michael Jackson) (1983 Japanese Vinyl)
