I went back and forth deciding if I should spend the $$ on this one. I echo the sentiments of the others here, it really is a special mastering. As Jivy2 pointed out, it has that vintage tube sound in a way but with modern clarity and the vinyl is dead quiet. Recommended.

I agree with the majority here. It's incredible. I have over twenty Decca SXL 2000 series originals and the Speaker Corner version of this release. It's shocking how Esoteric was able to retain the special tube magic sound of those early releases. Please don't mistake me for someone who blindly argues that the early Decca sound is the best. Although the special sound they produce is great, there is also boosted treble, tubby bass and distortion in some cases etc. How Esoteric managed to capture the early Decca sound and erase the faults of the 2000 series is sorcery at its finest. Prior to these releases you could get better dynamics etc with the ORG 45 London series or Speakers Corner Decca series, but you always had to sacrifice that magic sound the 2000 series originals brought (I'm not taking anything away from ORG or Speakers Corner, they did a fabulous job). This is the first time I have heard a company achieve what was previously thought to be impossible. And digital too! I will be buying every release in this line moving forward.

I agree with all of the previous reviews, this pressing is amazing with all the superlatives and much better than my Speakers Corner pressing, which is AAA. A comparison to the Speakers Corner version makes this pressing sound as if a veil has been lifted and the dynamics increased by 30-50%, making this pressing worth the $99.98 price tag in the USA in my humble opinion.

Wow! This is an amazing-sounding version of this recording. Thick and full when it needs to be but with great internal detail. It's not a modern replication of an early-60s Decca pressing, it is a new mastering interpretation of what's on the tape. If I'm nit-picking and listening closely for it, there's some whirring sub-noise near the beginning for a few revolutions, but maybe that will clean away. Mine has either no or only very light ticks that did not distract from the music. I am definitely hoping Esoteric releases more LPs (though not too many because I'll probably want to buy them all).
