Ultravox – Rage In Eden

More interesting than Vienna IMHO. But still boring. Yeah.
This swedish pressing is flat and quiet, but the sound is flat and dull.

The fact that two tracks are missing has been voiced before here, but their absence really hurts this album. And the ‘new’ mix really isn’t as good as the original one. The instrumentals are nice, but you’re probably better off buying the box set.

For a not bad, instrumental version of The Voice, you need to get the 5 CD Ultravox – Rage In Eden (Deluxe Edition). Disc 3 has THE VOICE [Work In progress Mix] which happens to be an instrumental (although it does’t say it is)....this CD also has a rough [Cassette Rehearsal] instrumental of
I (Death In The Afternoon). Shame the final versions got lost as they both make great instrumentals...maybe AI can sort it???? :) ...45th Anniversary instrumental edition anyone? :) :)

Agree with previous reviews. This LP sounds great! Side 1 in particular the bass is huge!. Buy with confidence.

Its a shame that the multi tracks for 'The Voice" and "I (Death In The Afternoon)" couldn't be found, but nevertheless this is a great release that I enjoyed, and the quality is up there. I have an OG promo of this so I can see myself bouncing between these two.

Not a bad sounding press, just a little flat with a loss of soundstage and dynamics compared to the original CD version.

I try to be objective + realistic about the tug of war between art and commerce, but I find it a bit insulting that chrysalis (or whoever owns it now) would re-release this without any proper artwork (inner sleeves) and charge $30. I bought this but upon realizing this returned it immediately, out of principle. The album deserves a bit more respect than that for some of us ?

My thoughts on this album are complicated + biased, the album is a sonic masterpiece imo and is among Conny P's better production projects. Unfortunately, the band made videos (I only learned much much later) and got caught up in some of the extra-musical trappings of the time, at least in the UK. Here in the US we were largely protected from that though luckily and only got to know this album through college radio where we were able to focus on the only thing that truly should matter* (the sonic architecture). (* lyrics don't really hold up after foxx left but I don't think many fans value the band for their lyrics anyhow ?)

My copy sounds fantastic. Just got done listening to all 8 side and the was not a single pop or hiss. I haven’t done a comparison yet. What a great album!

this new reissue sounds digital, boring with no bass drive compared to my original UK pressing. pity
