Its got a smiley face EQ but it doesnt hurt it. If anything it maybe helps this rough gem out. Theres a lovely air and soundstage expanse to be found and the bass is very juicy. I like it! -

Mine is almost the same but it has the catalog number ATCO-40022. It still has the Atlantic logo on the front cover and the non-boxed BIEM -
This pressing sounds nasty and compressed. Not sure what they did during the cutting process. Sounds like additional tube distortion and the cutting is very loud. I clearly prefer the later PF cut (by TONSTUDIO PFANZ) and the 2017 / 2023 RHINO LP (fantastic sounding version) for a nice and well-balanced sound.

Fantastic sounding reissue !!! Nothing more to say. Now my preferred copy on vinyl. I own a german 2nd press with yellow label (1969) and a later PFANZ cutting (PF matrixes). The reissue sounds much better, compared to the old versions. Great and wide soundstage, perfect balanced EQ, high quality vinyl. Highly recommended !!! -
Does this CD edition has pre-emphasis ? It seems to be the only CD master ATCO ever created and was used for all later editions as well. But the later editions sound bright and don't have a pre-emphasis tag. Thank you for useful information !

My first vinyl. I bought it new right after hearing it on FM radio out of Miami. In the unfashionable SW corner of Florida in the 1960's, I thank our lucky stars The Record Bar on Central existed. Working my way through catag my 55+ collecting history, but In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was my first.

I like this pressing very much. I had some other german ATLANTIC pressings before (one with STRAWBERRY engraved in the runout groove, one with digits only), but they all sounded way too sharp and bright. The PF cut (made by PFANZ TONSTUDIO) sounds a little darker, but much more natural and warm. I highly recommend this pressing if other german ATLANTIC versions sound too bright for your ears. As I never owned an early US or UK pressing, I can't compare, but I am fine with the PFANZ version.

Edited 5 months agoThis album was not well recorded to begin with. Some parts lack dynamic range and the EQ is funny sometimes. There are some drop-outs in the higher frequencies. Sonically, not that great, but that's a compromise you just have to make, if you wanna listen to this sort of music.

I have this LP and I'm pretty sure the "bands" were just a mastering error. The bands do not occur in any logical breaks in the song for a DJ to "cue up" to (one occurs in the middle of a guitar solo). The bands are also exactly the same width and in the same place as the A-side. Side two plays straight through with no gaps or fades, either. It's an oddity but not anything designed for airplay.
