Best Sounding version of this song I've heard, very open and dynamic, lots of bass in this pressing, Rainclouds and the Solo Version, not the Remix, are an added bonus. -
1982 single, the A-side is from TUG OF WAR, while the B-side is a non-album track.
Record plays with barely any surface noise and zero skips. Includes picture sleeve. -
Edited 3 years agoGreat single. Includes a tune by Denny Laine. And of course, Stevie Wonder. Obviously - the song is sugary oversimplification. But it resonated at the time as an aspiration. And, honestly, it's nice that so many people share the aspiration of the song.
I am aware of the critiques of the song and they are all absolutely valid. However, at the time this came out, the radio dial was segregated. MTV was segregated. We white people absolutely knew who Stevie Wonder was, but he wasn't played on our radio stations. Seeing Stevie and Paul together - was absolutely needed.
Is the song repetitive? OMG YES!!! Kind of annoying that way. As a song goes, it's not much of a song lyrically speaking. But is it enjoyable? Yes. That's kind of Paul's genius. Ditties. I mean, have you heard Big Barn Bed? Is this song expressing something that we should still be aspiring to? Yes. I still like the song. -
