Bought this purely on the fact that the song " Goodbye" happens to be the opening theme tune of the totally amazing Netflix time travel mind twisting drama called " Dark". That one song alone is worth the price I paid of this album via Amazon UK ( £16.99) as I was searching under the composer name of Ben Frost who composed the background incidental music but not the theme tune. Hence my total confusion !!
If you want to know the name of the theme song for Dark" it's " Goodbye" from this here album. Love all the other songs too, very ambient, moody low frequency vibes perfectly suited to the vinyl format. Actually a very good pressing and a very good Autumnal afternoon type record with a few candles and some incense sticks burning.
Sometimes the vocals remind me of a solo Job Anderson record like Olias of Sunhillow type ?!?
Highly recommended for something that bit different in a late 60s Beach Boys manner.

Four years back I bought this version, expecting to receive the embossed jacket & poster (as it was d as such). Took it up with Mute and they sent me a spare embossed jacket (but no poster as they had ran out). Strange they didn't tell me which version I had actaully bought!

I find the 2011 pressing a little more dynamic. Bought this one only because violet looks beautiful ...

Can anyone compare this repress to the 2011 pressing ?

Very nice pressing: very quiet, suface noise almost nonexistent. The music has a lot of depth to it and the intricate sound details are clear and located perfect in the mix. Recommended!

more poppy, yet as strong as his previous productions. and I must it Ash/Black Veil is a pure masterpiece for me. if you like this song, go check out the live version (MTV session) on youtube. its just e-the-re-al. Song Of Los and Candil De La Calle are also strong points here. all in all worth money whether you're a fan or not - you will be pleased by the permanent quality of Sascha's productions.. and by lovely packaging, too. I grabbed this ltd deluxe book edition nearly for the price of regular cd.

Apparat continues his melodic take on IDM with THE DEVIL'S WALK, which is, by turns, operatic and melancholic. The chorus that launches "Sweet Unrest" soon dwindles to a single, sad voice (Ring's own) for "Song Of Los," which maintains a strong thrum underneath. "Black Water," on the other hand, has a slow throb giving shape to the rest of the synth layers. Anja Plaschg takes vocals duties on "Goodbye," which sounds as if it's been distilled directly from heartache. Much of the album gives way to neo-indie-post-rock as well, but Apparat also has a few orchestral flights of fancy: the swelling strings on "The Soft Voices Die" or the plucked frenzy that starts off "Ash/Black Veil" before the rhythm comes in to pound away the sorrow. Meanwhile, the instrumental "A Bang In The Void" leans upon the marimba and vibraphone to impart resonance. And even though I miss Raz Ohara and some of the dirty funk that appeared on his previous album, WALLS, this album forges its own diabolic path.

That´s the album I´ve waited for this year. Pictures all around...the perfect soundtrack for late summer, early autumn and a white winterlandscape. I always loved the Moderat-releases and now you can hear the essence of his part in this project on one album. It's astonishing that he always finds the sensible point to me in his melancholic tunes. A great album, maybe one of the best in 2011. "Losing our voices. Losing our voices. For the day" (Song Of Los)....nothing more to say :-)
