Synths, drum machines, DJ scratching, ohhh my! When this came out in 1983 I am sure if was a WTF??? moment for the Jazz elitists. Herbie is out there on this release, but he was restless. Check out the video for "Rock It"
This Canadian Pressing is solid, quiet, and punchy. This album requires a Subwoofer. 🇨🇦😎 -

Definitely not an HDCD. I don't believe Mark Wilder has ever used HDCD, and I don't know of any Sony remasters that are HDCD since they had their own Super Bit Mapping process.

The sound screams 80’s but it must be appreciated in the context of where Miles and others were going and what hip hop ended up being. It’s a brilliant musical bridge in that it was one of the first albums to introduce scratching to a larger audience. The fact that this album can still be obtained so cheaply is a great opportunity to affordably snag a piece of history. Oh and the quality of the pressing is excellent.

Not only vinyl version. Exists also a spanish cassette version -
This vinyl pressing from 1983 sounds amazing. Flat and quiet album with an amazing soundstage. So many sound effects and different elements jump off of the wax. This experimental concept album by Herbie Hancock earned him a Grammy Award in 1984. Essential

Great sounding LP without being too 'digital' based upon the use of so much synth and drum machines. Great details, depth and clarity without sounding too sharp. Glad I got it!

Edited 3 years agoThis is an insanely good slice of maestro-Hancock's funk period. In addition to the dense and driving "Rockit", several other tracks really rise to the top here.
Fans of Herbie's jazz playing might appreciate his ripping piano solo on "Autodrive".
It's important to understand how this artist's earlier work influenced the emergence of electronic music and hip-hop.
I found a near perfect unplayed copy that sounds amazing. This pressing is excellent. -
