I have a pressing of this album with all of the checkpoints of the 1966 Mono Microgroove repress, BUT the labels do NO have NYC USA on both sides. Runout info is exactly the same but side one has "47th West 63rd, NYC". Jacket has the empty oval on the top left of front cover and BLP 4017 at the top right. Is this still the same pressing but using a different label?

Edited 10 months agoInitial panic turned to satisfaction. Some visible non fills turned out to be inaudible and my copy plays flat and true. It sounds lively and lovely!
I already knew it would as i bought the BN85th UHQCD first and thats awesome -
Edited 10 months agoCan any other owners comment on the weight? I have come into a copy of the disc that seems to match all of this info, but feels like 180g. I haven't weighed it, and I guess it could be 150, but it is most definitely not a standard 120g. Anyone else?

Edited one year agoAnyone compared this to 75 anniversary edition ? I'm happy with that 2015 edition, is it an important upgrade in sound here ?
-
Not a very dynamic mix. Drums are really flat and kind of buried in the mix. This is a great record but this reissue doesn’t due it justice.

This is what a record should be. Reasonably priced. Flat. Centred. Sounds incredible. Thank you blue note.

Edited one year agoFor me Horace Silver is Blue Note’s “Mr Reliable”. You can always be pretty sure of what you’re going to get on a 60’s Silver recording - swinging and melodic hard bop with no pretension- and this one is more of the same with that vintage RVG Blue Note sound.
This is one of the flatter records I’ve received in a while from the BNC series - not even a slight warp. Didn’t notice any undue surface noise apart from maybe one or two momentary instances - and that was listening through very revealing high quality headphones - so all in all if you’re a Horace Silver fan then this a no brainer. -
Edited one year agoAn absolute swinger of a session, some fiery performances by Sir Silver & Co. I'm a fan of Blue Mitchell and this is one of his best sideman contributions. He pairs well with Junior's tenor.
Highlights are "Blowin' The Blues Away", "Sister Sadie", and the ever lovely "Peace". There isn't a weak track on this album, period.
A very nice pressing, after a few rough releases from BN Classic series. They have fixed the overly tight inner sleeves which is a welcome improvement. Vinyl was perfectly clean out of the wrapper. There is a slight rumble present in the space between tracks.
4.25 stars. This baby bops hard.
