Gal Costa – Índia

I have the 2017 Mr. Bongo reissue, and it sounds great. But this one blows it away! What an amazing mastering job by Miles Showell at Abbey Road. The instuments seem to have more breathing room, and both the power and subtleties of Gal's voice are fully realized.

I can't comment on the pressing, but several people complained the color of the vinyl doesn't complement the photo on the jacket. It took me a while to realize why they chose green, and my guess is because of the trees and foliage behind her. Red or blue would possibly been a more fitting choice.

I don't have an original to compare this too, not any other pressing. But on its own merits, this pressing is great. Wonderful instrument separation and levels. Sounds clean, and even if there may be a digital step (as it's an Abbey Road half speed master), it would be hard to tell. Oh and the songs are damn fine.

OK, if you are a first-buyer, then this is a no-brainer. Another high quality release from Mr. Bongo. If you have their last pressing, let me highlight some differences: The old cover is much thicker, but the color of the print is less natural. The print of the labels on the new one is quite faded. My older pressing has some issues with three or four non-fill sounds. The sound on both is great. The older has a handful sibilance, none on the new one. The insert with the interview is nice. The poster is a cool addition, but the quality of the photo in this size is debatable. Both pressings are around 140 g. The small difference in sound is very hard to describe for me: It's a bit more balanced, a hint of fuller bass and a tiny less pronounced highs. Anybody more ideas?

To me Relance is one of the highlights of La Costa's career ... Very sad then that the pressing of this 50th anniversary release has loud cracks (invisible on the vinyl disc) in the intro to precisely that song.

Wow, much information, very analog, dynamic und pure sound! Wide and airy soundstage….good pressing…recommended!

Apparently this has been repressed by Mr Bongo in 2023 - release MRBLP282. Can anyone comment about this 2023 release? Thank you so much!

Será que tava sobrando material reciclável verde na fábrica? Sei que estão colorindo os discos, mas esse verde folha não tem nada que remeta à arte gráfica original do projeto, como já muito bem colocado aqui. Nada!
É triste que a audição vai ser o último ponto que vou tratar em minha avaliação, já que antes é preciso considerar a total falta de cuidado com os últimos lançamentos da Universal Music! Capas mal feitas… Prensagem descentralizada… Parece que o selo não consegue mais entregar um disco plano. Todos, eu disse todos os discos que comprei recentemente vieram com algum grau de empenamento e com esse, não foi diferente! Lamentável!
Minha cópia veio com poucos ruídos de superfície. Achei a masterização boa, nítida e potente. Valorizou a voz cristalina da Gal, porém houve alguns excessos em alguns instrumentos que deveriam continuar em segundo plano.
Mas olha! Sem dúvidas!: Fiquem com a prensagem original ou o repress da Mr. Bongo. Muita negligência com um clássico desses! Merecia muito mais!
O da MR Bongo ganha em todos os quesitos: material gráfico, disco preto, e prensagem muito mais fiel ao original. Sem mais!
