One of America’s great symphonic prog bands, Holding Pattern originally released their four-song, 29-minute debut album on vinyl in 1981, back when you could get away with calling that a full-length album. This is a classic instrumental symphonic prog album. The first two tracks are heavily influenced by Genesis (Mellotron and all), the third by Camel, and the fourth by Happy the Man.

I fail to comprehend why this remains unknown, unwanted or underappreciated. Clean and concise melodic lines achieved with the standard quartet lineup make for anything but a standard release. A consistent tone and memorable structures result in one of the better progressive rock gems from the 80s. A boundlessly joyous, summery feel dominates the opening track. Highly recommended!
