United Artists Corporation (UA) is an American production and distribution company; the first company was founded in 1919 by Douglas Fairbanks as a venture premised on allowing actors to control their own interests rather than being dependent upon commercial studios; legally operated under this name until 1982, after the purchase by MGM. First headquartered in New York and then moved to California. The company was resurrected in 1992 after more corporate restructuring and has been legally operational under this name since then.
