American violinist and arranger, born June 9, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, USA; died January 6, 2010, in Nashville, Tennessee, USA (age 81). Known as Shelly Kurland. Father of Amy Kurland.

Classically trained in violin at Julliard School. Relocated to Nashville in 1964 to teach at Peabody College. Performed as a session musician in Nashville, for Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, George Jones, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and others. Formed The Shelly Kurland Strings, to organize other string players in Nashville, and was known for "the Nashville Sound." Retired 1980s. Author of An Adult Guide to the Orchestra.
